What does your player need to get started?
Team Jersey = Provided by League. Team jerseys with the company sponsor logos will be distributed to the team during the first few weeks of practice.
Team Hat = Provided by League. Each player in the baseball division will receive a Kingsford hat and will be distributed to the team during the first few weeks of practice.
Belt = The baseball/softball belt is not provided by the league.
Socks = baseball/softball socks are required and not provided by the league.
Pants = baseball/softball pants are required and not provided by the league. Team coach will select color based on team colors. It's always a good idea to have game and practice pants but this is optional.
Glove = baseball/softball gloves are required but not provided by the league, and should be at both practices and games. Avoid buying an oversized glove. Beginners should stick to a smaller glove for additional control. It does take time to break in your new glove. No matter what you do, most will agree that the most effective way to break in a glove is by using it. Most gloves have the pre-measured size stamped inside where the pocket is. Below are the general sizes:
Tee-Ball 9-10" Infield 10 - 11.75" Pitcher 11.5 - 12.25" Outfield 11.5 - 12.25"
Batting Gloves = Batting gloves are optional and a personal preference of the player.
Cleats = Baseball/softball cleats are required and is arguably the most important baseball item you can buy your child. Cleats with metal spikes are not permitted. Shoes with molded cleats are permissible.
Helmet = The league does provide a certain number of helmets to each team for player use. Altering the helmet in any form, including painting or adding decals (by anyone other than the manufacturer or authorized dealer) may void the warranty. Face guards are permitted.
Facemask = All Softball infielders are required to wear a protective face mask. All other players in Softball and Baseball can wear protective face masks at the decision of the player and parents.
Equipment Bag = Equipment bags are an optional item but are very nice to have. The player can put all his gear & water in the bag and hang it on the dugout fence. This item can be used for future seasons.
Long Sleeve Under Jersey Shirt = Long sleeve shirts are optional, but they keep the player warm for any of those cold spring weather games. Pitchers cannot wear white sleeves; it is encouraged to coordinate with the coach regarding preferred color.
Practice Shirt = The league does not provide or sell any practice shirts.
Baseball Bat = Each coach will be provided with a few baseball bats. However, it's nice to have your own as many players want to practice when away from the team. It is essential that you select a baseball bat that fits your unique body configuration and skill level, height, weight, and hitting strength. Your bat must also conform to the specifications as to what bats are approved by Little League for use in their various divisions.
Tee Ball Bats = Starting on January 1, 2018, all Tee Ball bats in the Little League Baseball® Tee Ball program must feature the USA Baseball mark and accompanying text.
Softball Bat = Each coach will be provided with a few softball bats. However, it's nice to have your own as many players want to practice when away from the team. It is essential that you select a bat that fits your unique body configuration and skill level, height, weight, and hitting strength. Your bat must also conform to the specifications as to what bats are approved by Little League for use in their various divisions.
Catcher's Gear = Catchers must wear approved long or short model chest protectors. All catchers must wear chest protectors with neck collar, throat guard, shin guards and catcher's helmet, all of which must meet Little League specifications and standards. All catchers must wear a mask, “dangling” type throat protector and catcher's helmet during infield/outfield practice, pitcher warm-up and games. Not to worry though...the League provides ALL the Catcher's Gear/Glove!!!
